The very first set of reviews I wrote for this site &#8212; back in January, 1997 &#8212; included a review of\u00a0<strong><em>Mallrats<\/em><\/strong>, Kevin Smith&#8217;s much maligned sequel to\u00a0<strong><em>Clerks<\/em><\/strong>. Smith&#8217;s &#8220;Jersey Trilogy,&#8221; even with its ups-and-downs, has provided a lot of movie-going fun for me. So for me to say that I was eager to see<strong><em>\u00a0Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0would be kind of anti-climactic.<\/p>\n<p>In the film, stoners Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) learn that Miramax is producing a film based on their comic-book alter egos, Bluntman and Chronic. They also learn that they&#8217;re not getting any money from the use of their likenesses. On top of that, they learn that people are saying bad things about them on the Internet. After consulting with Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck), co-creator of\u00a0Bluntman and Chronic\u00a0and one of the main characters in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/movieassault.com\/index.php\/1997\/04\/20\/chasing-amy-1997\/\"><strong><em>Chasing Amy<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, Jay and Silent Bob head off to Hollywood to stop the production of the movie.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Smith has never been one to hide his influences nor his genuine love of certain films and cultural icons. He has yet to make a film without references to\u00a0<strong><em>Star Wars<\/em><\/strong>,<strong><em>\u00a0Jaws<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and comic books. Since this movie is meant to end the series of films that began with\u00a0<strong><em>Clerks<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in 1994, Smith has a field day wheeling out his trademarks as well as throwing in as many relevant (and irrelevant) cameos as possible. It&#8217;s clear that Smith and his cast are having fun and, if you get even some of the jokes, you&#8217;ll have fun as well.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to recommend this film to anyone who hasn&#8217;t at least seen\u00a0<strong><em>Clerks<\/em><\/strong>. The recommendation grows with each of the following films in the series. If you&#8217;ve seen\u00a0<strong><em>Clerks<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>Mallrats<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>Chasing Amy<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><em>Dogma<\/em><\/strong>, you&#8217;ll love<strong><em>\u00a0Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back<\/em><\/strong>. If you haven&#8217;t, you&#8217;ll probably wonder what the hell is going on. I loved it for what it is: a tribute to a pair of characters that are as lovable and funny as they are stupid and raunchy.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fsrs\"><span class=\"fsrs-stars\"><i class=\"fsrs-fas fa-fw fa-star \"><\/i><i class=\"fsrs-fas fa-fw fa-star \"><\/i><i class=\"fsrs-fas fa-fw fa-star \"><\/i><i class=\"fsrs-far fa-fw fa-star \"><\/i><i class=\"fsrs-far fa-fw fa-star \"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"hide fsrs-text fsrs-text__hidden\" aria-hidden=\"false\">3.0 out of 5.0 stars<\/span><span class=\"lining fsrs-text fsrs-text__visible\" aria-hidden=\"true\">3.0<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2ut0ILA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buy on Amazon!<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kevin Smith is one of my favorite directors.\u00a0Chasing Amy\u00a0and\u00a0Clerks\u00a0are two of my favorite films of all time.
